Power was transmitted to the rear wheels using an open driveshaft, a hypoid bevel final drive, and Hotchkiss drive, replacing the torque tube from a remotely mounted gearbox used on earlier 40/50 hp models. Although the 40/50hp model would have earned its 'the best car in the world' sobriquet in any event, rolls-royce's decision to drop all other types only served to focus attention on what would become known as the 'silver ghost'. The heart of the silver ghost was its magnificent engine, a 7,036cc (later 7,428cc) sidevalve six equipped with seven-bearing crankshaft and pressure lubrication. A sturdy chassis comprised of channel-section side members and tubular cross members was suspended on semi-elliptic springs at the front and a 'platform' leaf-spring arrangement at the rear, though the latter soon came in for revision. Chassis number '61 ne' was delivered from the factory on 7th june 1921 for bodying by rippon brothers of huddersfield, yorkshire, and was registered 'wa 4876' (a sheffield mark). Factory records show that the car remained in the yorkshire area in the hands of various owners, returning to the works for repairs on several occasions. A plaque on the dashboard records the name of one of these owners: gerald timmer-thomson of york lodge, beverley. The body was painted and lined by hand, and the rebuild completed in april 1962. In 1992 the engine was overhauled, since when only some 4,000-5,000 kilometres have been covered, while the convertible top was renewed in 1998. Because only two of its wheels are braked, this silver ghost is limited by swiss traffic laws to a maximum speed of 30km/h, although the car will easily exceed 100km/h. It is for this reason that the vendor has decided to part with the rolls-royce after 55 years of ownership by his family. Described as in generally very good condition, the car is offered with instruction book, parts catalogue, copy chassis cards, vehicle pass (1962), various photographs and swiss registration papers.

Produced from 1929 to 1936, the rolls royce 20/25 was the most popular model offered by the esteemed british automaker prior to world war ii. Successor to the “twenty” series introduced in 1922, the 20/25 was of sufficient size to gracefully carry limousine coachwork, but at the same time compact enough that most any owner could personally take its wheel with comfort and confidence. (this could not be so readily said of the larger and typically chauffeur-drive rolls royce phantom models that were the 20/25 contemporaries for most of its production period.)relatively economical to run, the 20/25’s durable overhead valve 3. 7 litre inline six engine provided the exceptionally quiet reliability that made rolls-royce ownership not only prestigious but also invitingly practical. The electrical system operated on 12 volts. This 129-inch wheelbase 20/25 from 1932 has its origins as a 4-door saloon body. The shooting brake body style was designed to handle utilitarian chores of country living with rolls royce style and reliability. This shooting brake body was expertly crafted and built in the style of the era even though the body builder is unknown. The materials used were the finest quality. The interior top slats were bass wood. The structure was high quality maple and the panels are mahogany. The expertly installed fabric top is still in excellent condition. As evidenced by the body plate this rolls was delivered new by dealer jack barclay, ltd of london. The frontal assembly is classic rolls royce in every detail, with the marque’s signature radiator grille lopped by the legendary spirit of ecstasy hood mascot. Thermostatically controlled stainless steel louvers are a correct and convenient feature of the later 20/25 such as this one. This shooting brake is equipped with lucas headlamps and front fender lamps. A handsome full complement of gauges includes a rev counter. The chassis is lubricated by a single-shot foot operated bijur system. The interior is authentically trimmed with high grade leather hides. Nineteen-inch center lock wire-spoke wheels with the spare tire riding on the right-hand front wing. This car has 5 new goodrich 600 x 19 whitewalls. Chassis production of the 20/25 during 1929-1936 was 3,837. Rolls royce enhanced the 20/25 engineering with 36 difference technical releases during its 9-year run including centralized chassis lubrication system, diamond engine mounting, improved engine performance, 5. 75:1 compression ratio, electric fuel gauge, synchromesh on third and top gears. Identified as chassis number gau-2 and bearing engine number f3e this 20/25 retains its original british registration plates gx8285. In 1993 mechanical work included a new clutch, tune-up, rebuilt water pump and starter. In 1994, the engine was rebuilt including a new cylinder head. The engine work and mechanicals were done by noted restorer frank cooke of the vintage garage. A complete binder of all work, invoices and correspondence is included. It would also serve well to introduce a new owner to the exclusive prestige and pleasure of classic rolls royce ownership.

On offer is a most compelling rolls-royce phantom v. It came to us, as it appears here, refinished from the bare metal out. Splendidly sumptuous, the interior showcases gorgeously restored wood trim. The engine is reconditioned, the transmission rebuilt and the chassis gone over—all by a highly respected marque expert and at significant expense. Here indeed is an extraordinary phantom v, poised to provide years and miles of pleasure to its next owner. Between 1959 and 1968, the stately phantom v represented the ultimate in spacious automotive transport for the world’s most discerning and demanding customers. Blending uncompromised traditions of quality and workmanship with a modernized powertrain, the majestic 144-inch wheelbase phantom v was designed for formal use by royals, heads of state and dignitaries. A phantom v was for decades the official state car of queen elizabeth ii. Other original owners included rock-and-roll “king” elvis presley, and the beatles’ john lennon—whose 1965 phantom v was famously painted in a multi-color romany gypsy wagon scheme. Crafted the limousine coachwork for 5vpc17. It also had a wider track front and rear. The phantom v was the last rolls-royce with a full-frame chassis—hence it was also the last available with separately constructed coachbuilt bodywork. Introduced for 1963, its improved carburetion and increased compression ratio enhanced both performance and economy. A special rear-axle ratio enabled the phantom v to proceed at a near walking pace when used for ceremonial occasions such as parades and reviews. F. “butch” murphy committed nearly a year to bringing the car to its present superb mechanical condition. The work—billed at over $90,000 (all invoices available)—included engine and head work, rebuilding of the carburetors, transmission overhaul, replacement of rubber seals, renewal of the brake system, wiring harness, air conditioning system, power steering system and more. Since completion, only test mileage and occasional drives have added to the 97,559 miles showing on the odometer. Cosmetically, this is also an exceptional motorcar. Expertly applied, the deeply lustrous finish duplicates the phantom v’s original windsor blue hue. The superb exterior bright work reflects restoration by d & d classic automobile restorations. A marvelously roomy interior awash in the traditional splendor and a. Air Conditioning

1921 rolls-royce 40/50hp silver ghost cabrioletcoachwork by windoverschassis no. 32sgengine no. P68although the 40/50hp model would have earned its 'the best car in the world' sobriquet in any event, rolls-royce's decision to drop all other types only served to focus attention on what would become known as the 'silver ghost'. The car offered here – chassis number '32sg' – was completed on 23rd december 1921 and despatched to coachbuilder windovers ltd for bodying as a coupé cabriolet. Founded in 1856 in huntingdon but from 1924 based in north west london, windovers diversified into the manufacture of motor bodies in the early 1900s, concentrating on quality marques – chiefly daimler and rolls-royce at first – before adding the likes of alvis, armstrong-siddeley, lagonda, lanchester, mercedes-benz and bentley to its portfolio in the 1930s. On completion in 1922 the silver ghost was delivered to consul general c f glad via the danish importer k w christensen, and has remained in and around copenhagen all its life. It retains its original engine, 'p68'. On 1st november 1930 the rolls-royce was delivered to j f schibler, a director of the wessel & vett company, owners of the famous magasin du nord department store in copenhagen. In 1947 the silver ghost was owned by dentist helpe poulsen and in 1950 was restored leo jansen. It subsequently passed into the ownership of architect paul tybjerg, a board member of the dansk veteranbil klub, who in 1958 donated the car to the klub's museum. In 1979 the rolls-royce was restored again and reunited with its original style windovers cabriolet body by paul bachmann frederica, passing in 1990 to jorgen hansen and thence to the current vendor in 2014. Strikingly finished in ivory white with contrasting dark red leather interior, '32sg' is still in generally very good condition some 30-plus years after restoration, the engine having been started recently after the car's lengthy period in storage. It comes with copies of the original build sheets; numerous other documents and period photographs; and danish registration papers.

Stately open coachwork on the springfield silver ghost chassis, body 537· matching numbers, with original open bodywork· formerly owned by harry resnickrolls-royce maintained an american factory at springfield, massachusetts, from 1919 to 1931, where the silver ghost remained in production until 1926. In order to compete with other prestige manufacturers, rolls-royce set up a range of bodies to be sold under the name “rolls-royce custom coach work.” many of these were built by brewster, but some were commissioned by merrimac, willoughby, holbrook, and biddle & smart. They all carried the names of british landmarks: croydon and henley convertibles, st. Alban town cars, and the piccadilly roadster, to name but a few. Only 77 oxford examples were produced. Records from the rolls-royce foundation, copies of which are on file, record the delivery of chassis number 107jh to albert r. Hansen on april 20, 1924. Hansen was a chicago resident who both worked and lived in landmarks, the continental bank building at 208 south lasalle street and the horatio n. May house at 1443 astor street, respectively. The car was later acquired in 1957 by w. Schreiber and then again, in 1964, by dr. Bowers, of kokomo, indiana. From 1969 until 1980 it was the property of well-known east coast collector and rolls-royce enthusiast harry resnick, of channel master television antenna fame, and it was displayed at his well-known ellenville motor museum in new york. In december 1980 the rolls-royce was acquired from resnick by warren e. Spieker, of atherton, california. It eventually made its way into the blackhawk museum, where it was on prominent display for several years prior to its acquisition by the current owner. Capacious collapsible jump seats allow for seven-passenger occupancy on warm summer drives. The paint and interior have mellowed nicely and held up well throughout, as has the nickel trim on such components as the classic bausch & lomb headlamps. A complete frame off restoration has been performed. This car was recently serviced by vintage & auto rebuilds.

During ww i, production of the silver ghost ceased. In 1919, production resumed for the backordered vehicles. Engine and chassis parts from the pre-war ghosts were used in 1919 and a starter motor was added. Lord ivenforth of amos grove, southgate, london was the first owner of chassis 20pp. He commissioned this car to be of nickel finish and placed an order for barker & co. Ltd of london to fit a seven-passenger limousine body. The completed car carried greater london registration lw8003. In 1927 it was with miss rea farr of london, and then moved to sir harry peat by 1932. Movements are then uncertain until the car was purchased by r. Lovell of thetford, norfolk by 1948. Subsequently, at least from 1959 to 1965, it served as a tow truck, with j. Flannery of london carrying registration le7465. After passing through the hands of gordon cussens, also of london, 20pp appears to have crossed the channel to france. It was owned by jean claude caveng from 1970 to 1974. When the tow truck body was removed, 20pp was fitted with a delightful kellner landaulette body. Founded in 1860, and located in central paris, la carrosserie kellner had built ambulances and aircraft during the great war. This once again elegant car, now carrying registration ge2526, was marketed in 1983 by gerry porter ltd of south kensington, london. Captions to its media photographs were glowing: ‘… a most imposing open-drive landaulette, one of the most interesting bodies we have come across in some time. …the interior is in the best elaborate edwardian drawing-room style, with brocade seats and trim, tasseled blinds, railway carriage window-openers, and complete matching vanity sets on either side. A greater adventure awaited 20pp. Daniel howard of california usa purchased the car and it crossed the atlantic by 1985. Gary gattner of seattle, washington held it from 1987 to 1991. It was since sold and in 2009 bob jefferson undertook a full frame off restoration. Everything was mechanically restored. Jefferson’s invoices totaling over $370,000 are available. It was then shown at the rroc national meet in williamsburg, virginia. The 6 lester tyres are like new. It is now designated “full classic” by the classic car club of america. A stunning addition for the most discriminating of collectors.
